This has become one of my top ten "little" books that have had huge impacts on my life and my understanding of myself and others. Based on Jungian psychology and their own experiences with clients, the authors provide a simple, clear exploration of the major masculine and feminine archetypes, their relationships within gender groups and between them, within families and within other social groups, as well as their mature and immature expressions. The most important communication to me was that each archetypical expression is equally valid within the whole play of Consciousness and culture. However, at this time anyway, there tends to be a bias (especially in modern Western culture) in favor of Mothers and Amazons (for the females) and Fathers and Warriors (for the males) which leaves virtually unnoticed and undervalued the archetypical expressions of Companion and Medium, Seeker and Sage, respectively. I highly recommend it to anyone who is really interested in seeing beyond the surface of relationships, into something that is rooted deeply in our psyches, male and female; cutting across the influences of family and culture. I also recommend it for anyone who still has not found their "place" yet, who still wonders, "Where do I fit in?" This book was a major milestone in helping me to answer that question.
